In addition, let’s say it, our terroir is very rich and there is nothing but gain to discover it and put it in the spotlight in our daily life.
Still quite unknown, haskap is a small fruit, an elongated oval-shaped berry that grows wild in northern Canada and is now grown by many farmers. It is a small fruit that is often compared to blueberries because of its colour, which is still much brighter than that of blueberries.
Its taste resembles a little blueberry, with a mixture of several other flavours recalling among others raspberries, blackberries, blackcurrant. It is sweet and a little tart and has interesting properties since it is very rich in antioxidants, vitamins A and C as well as fiber.
Because haskap is a shrub that is resistant enough to disease and cold weather, its cultivation is quite easy and it is becoming, little by little, a popular fruit.
Although this small fruit is found increasingly in public markets in season and in some grocery stores, it is also processed and used in different ways.
Here are some suggestions and recipes for using haskap.
